Quit Smoking Forums

There are a few quit smoking forums on the internet worth visiting. They are a great place to get support from others for free. Here are a few that I have visited myself and reviewed for you.

http://www.quitsmokingmessageboard.com

This is the best quit smoking forum that I have found. It features a nice interface and a good community. Many people will offer tips and advice on stopping smoking, also you are encouraged to post a journal of your attempt to quit and many people will support you.

There is a whole mix of people on there - some of them have tried several times to quit but can barely last a few days. Others have quit for years and have very welcome advice.

This forum is very different to the previous one. The first thing that strikes you about this board is the antiquated tree structure interface which was probably new around ten years ago!

Still, you shouldn’t let a bad interface get in the way of what is a pretty good resource. The conversations are harder to follow but it is still worth hanging out here. The community posting here is mostly from the USA.

FreedomFromTobaccoQuitSmokingNow

This community is part of the MSN groups which means that you can either just visit this site or, if you prefer, you can communicate by email instead.

This community is like the first forum but has less people and so is much more close knit. It also has some much longer threads - if I take a look now then I can see that there are many posts that have well over one hundred replies!

If you are one of those people that don’t like to post but prefer to lurk, then this is a great place for you.

One thing, you need to have an MSN Passport ID to post on this quit smoking forum. If you already have a hotmail address then you already have one anyway and even if you don’t then it is a 2 minute process to sign up for one on the site when you first try to post.

http://groups.yahoo.com

I have not looked on here much but I know that this place is vast and caters to all sorts of interests. It is very similar to the previous forum because you can post on the web or by email if you prefer. One thing that I would say though is that Yahoo Groups is so vast that you will have to hunt around a little to find a good quit smoking forum to hang out on that has sufficient members and has not been abandoned to SPAM. Good luck!

A Word Of Warning

A word of warning about smoking forums. Like any forum, you will see the whole spectrum of advice there with some persons claiming to have the “best” technique. I recommend that you just keep an open mind and use them more for support rather than research. There is no replacement for doing your own research so don’t rely on others in this case.
