Quit Smoking Counter

A quit smoking counter is a way for smokers to reinforce the value of their achievements by being able to see how long they have been a smoker. As each milestone passes (e.g. each month), this builds confidence in the successful ex-smoker.

Especially because stopping smoking is perceived to be difficult and a struggle against the addiction, then the length of time since stopping is considered the key measurement of success. A quit smoking counter is a great way to visualise this.

More advanced counters do more than simply add up how long you have been a non-smoker. They are more accurately called meters and can calculate how much money you have saved as well as sound alarms when it is time for you to remove a patch, for instance.

These counters come in 2 forms. One is a downloadable program that you can install on your PC and it can be looked at anytime you wish to remind yourself of your achievement. The other type is a web script that displays a graphic that can often be personalised. Typically, people post these images in their signatures on forums to show others how long they have been smoke free.

ManillaPush

This counter has a variety of features. You install it on your PC and you can set various alarms e.g. to remind you to change your patches. The colour scheme can be personalised and a statistical analysis of the last 7 days can be done.

SilkQuit Meter

This quit smoking counter was first released in 1997 and has undergone many updates since. You can minimise it to the system tray (lower right hand corner) and, as well as your total quit time, it can also calcuate how much money you have saved in your local currency. SilkQuit also supports multiple users so if many different smokers use the same PC, they can each have their own profile.

QuitMeter

This is a very simple web form where you input your quit date, daily amount of cigarettes and price. Simple and definitely not advanced.

Quit Smoking Counter

This is a great little “widget”. What this will do is to create a nice table with text and images that shows when you stopped smoking, how long it has been, how much you have saved in money but also how many minutes of your life you have saved! What you do is you enter the details into the webform and then it gives you a piece of web code so you can easily add this counter to a forum, a blog, Facebook, Blogger, iGoogle and more!
