How To Quit Smoking
How to quit smoking? Maybe the biggest question that you will ever face in life. What is the answer?
If you ask any man in the street or even the typical ex-smoker then he will probably tell you that you need lots of willpower. You could also try some different cures like patches or chewing gum. You could even try wacky things like stop smoking magnets which you wear on the ear, or herbal remedies. But then you already knew this, right?
So if you know how to quit smoking then why are you reading this article?
Willpower
Ultimately, all these methods are about you and your desire for cigarettes. All these methods are an attempt to try and help you overcome the desire and cravings for cigarettes by either reducing your cravings, distracting you or just psyching you up so you are so mentally strong that you will not give in to your urges.
Sucess Rates
In my opinion, all these methods are worthless. Barely anyone actually succeeds using these methods. Have you ever wondered how many people successfully give up smoking for the rest of their lives? Maybe you think the figure is 70%, or perhaps just 50%. That’s not a bad idea, a 50/50 chance, right? Sadly the real figure is closer to around 5 or 10% at best.
When you read of a particular method being 50% successful then what that usually means is that after a week, 50% of people were no longer smoking. Fast forward 6 months and you’ll find that nearly everyone has started smoking again.
The Real Way To Quit Smoking
There is a light at the end of the tunnel though. I used to be a smoker myself and I tried all the usual methods. I worried about getting the cravings and I would also occasionally quit for a couple of days before I walked to the late night gas station at 4am and demanded a pack of 20 Lights.
Then I got lucky - I stumbled across a method of stopping smoking that allows you to quit without willpower and without cravings. And because you don’t get any cravings then you will never start again. Unlike other methods, the 6 month quit rate is very good. Heck, the 5 year quit rate is very good! And, speaking personally, I have been cigarette free now for a whole 8 years. If you want to know more about how I did it, then I have written a guide about the method and my experiences.
